Matching Grant #71359

Matching Grant application, submitted by Rotary Club of Vasco da Gama and Rotary Club of Westhampton for funding to help provide toilet blocks and classroom furniture for schools and villages in Goa and Karnataka, India, has been approved by Rotary Foundation (India) ("RF(I)") and The Rotary Foundation ("TRF").

The award is in the amount of INR258,500.00 equivalent to US$5,500. The total grant budget for the project is INR634,500.00 equivalent to US$13,500.00.

The award is in the amount of INR268,800.00 equivalent to US$5,600. The total grant budget for the project is INR616,800.00 equivalent to US$12,850.00.

On to Convention

After almost 20 years there shall be representation of the Club at the Rotary International Convention at Birmingham from June 21-24.

Rtn. Prakash Saraswat is attending with his spouse Jaya. Also attending is our President elect Rtn. Servulo Barros.

District Assembly

District 3170 Assembly at Belgaum on 30th & 31st May 2009 was attended by President Tejendra, President-elect Servulo, Secretary-elect Piyush, Vice President Ume & CRFC Prakash (who was also a resource person)

The assembly was well organised by RC Belgaum.

Partner for 2nd MG Project

Rotary Club of Wigan, UK has agreed to be our partners for the project for Cervical Cancer Detection Video Colposcope.

The cost of project is over $12000 and the Club hopes to complete the project in the coming six months.

International MG Project

Our Club is the International Partner for Rotary Club of Napoli, District 2100 for a training programme to provide trainers and a PC equipped with a special software that allows to read all what is present on the monitor including texts, command or picture description for 15 blind men and women in Naples, Italy.

The Project shows our willingness to partner for projects outside our community and use our resources to do humanitarian work Internationally.

Cervical Cancer Detection

Our club is looking for International Partner for a Matching Grants Project of around $ 12,500.

The project is to install a video colposcope in a hospital catering to poor patients in the port town as well as use the portable equipment to carry out camps in various towns and villages in the state of Goa.

Goa is considered as the cancer capital of India with about 700 cases per million of population. The lifestyle of the women in a state where almost 40% of women are unmarried even at the age of 40, makes them at risk for breast as well as cervical cancer. 

Rotary Club of Dabolim, Goa

Our Club has sponsored a new Rotary Club in the suburbs of our Town.

The Charter of ROTARY CLUB OF DABOLIM-GOA shall be received soon and Dinesh Heda shall be the Charter President and Amit Bandekar will be the Charter Secretary.

First Ever Matching Grants Project

We have submitted our application form for our first ever Matching Grants project complete with all signatures of the Partners to TRF on 13th November 2008.

Asha Deep Special School is a School for the Intellectually Disabled Children. It is located at Headland Sada, Mormugao, Goa and has about 140 students from Mormugao Taluka (20 kms radius). The School is run by an independent Trust and has been serving the Community for over a decade.
